Sentence Privacy Policy

Last updated October 5, 2026

The short version: Sentence does not collect, store or share any information about you or your writing. Your files stay on your Mac.

What Sentence collects

Nothing. Sentence has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no crash reporting. It does not send any data to me, to Apple or to any third party, and it makes no network connections of its own.

Your writing

Sentence opens and saves plain Markdown and text files in the folders you choose. Those files are read and written on your Mac only. They are not uploaded anywhere. If you keep your folder in iCloud Drive, Dropbox, git or similar, that service's own privacy policy applies to the files it syncs. Sentence is not involved in that syncing.

What stays on your device

To work properly, Sentence remembers a few things locally on your Mac: your preferences (such as theme, typeface and size), your recent projects, and permission to reopen the folders you've opened. This information is stored in the app's own sandboxed storage and never leaves your device. Deleting the app removes it.

Permissions

Sentence runs in the macOS App Sandbox. It can only read and write the files and folders you explicitly open, and it has no access to the rest of your files, your contacts, your location, your camera or your microphone. Optional spelling and grammar checking uses the checker built into macOS.

Children

Because Sentence collects no information, it collects none from children either.

Changes to this policy

If this ever changes, for example if a future version adds a feature that uses the network, I will update this page and the date above before that version is released.
